Review: Double Down (All In #2) by Alessandra Torre

Double Down

By Alessandra Torre

Genre: Romantic Suspense

Cover Design: Najla Qamber Designs

Synopsis

In Vegas, there was one man who was off limits. One man… and I fell for him.

I knew there were risks. Still, I played the game. When Dario Capece called, I answered. When he beckoned, I came. When he broke all my rules, I looked the other way.

I knew there were risks. I just never realized they included death.

Review:

Bell is still in danger.  Only now she has to fake her own death, leave her hometown and all of this is orchestrated by the man she loves.  A dangerous man that she trusts.  The rules surrounding her and Dario are being broken and rewritten.  Can they survive the weeks ahead or will everything blow up in their faces?

With this series, I have fallen in love with Alessandra Torre’s writing.  Bell and Dario are very tough characters to relate to.  Some how she makes the reader relate and fall for both the waitress and the casino boss.  How is beyond me?  But as I read, Bell and Dario’s complex and suspenseful story I got completely sucked in.  I couldn’t put this down until I found out how they ended up.  The glitz and glamour of the Vegas strip is stripped down to the nitty gritty and the dark dangerous side is shown.  With that also comes a steamy love affair that can compare to any fairytale.  This is part two in the duet.  I would recommend reading the first book then diving right into this one.  I dare you to try to hold out.  This is a great vacation read that will leave you panting for more.

Review: The Right Stud by Ilsa Madden-Mills and Tia Louise

Title: The Right Stud
Authors: Ilsa Madden-Mills & Tia Louise

Genre: Romantic Comedy

Release Date: June 4, 2018

Blurb
Wall Street
Journal bestselling author Ilsa
Madden-Mills and
USA Today
bestselling author Tia Louise are back with an all-new romantic comedy filled
with Southern sass and steamy scenes that will have you laughing out loud and
fanning yourself. Pour the sweet tea and get ready…
“The best way to get
over your sh**ty ex-fiancé is to get under a shiny new stud…”
As soon as
Mr. Tall, Blond, and Handsome walks into that bar, I know he’s the hook-up I
need to get over stupid Cheater Kyle.
A few
stolen kisses in a dark hallway, and I’m pretty sure we’re headed for a home
run—until he disappears without a trace.
Whatever.
Men are all snakes in the grass, and I don’t need a new one anyway.
I resolve
to forget about his perfect lips (and chest of steel) and instead focus on
turning my Granny’s old beach house into a profitable B&B.
What I
don’t expect is for him to show up the next day in my kitchen!
You see, my
sexy mystery man is none other than Jax Roland, the drop-dead gorgeous home
improvement star of The Right Stud, and
he’s got an offer I can’t refuse.
With a
suitcase in one hand and a hammer in the other, he wants to move in and
renovate my old house while he films his new show.
But my
roommate has secrets, and they threaten to rip our blossoming friendship—and
possible love—apart.
When push
comes to shove, is Jax really The Right
Stud
or is he just another nail in the coffin of love?

Review:

Ashton has given up on men.  After her douche of an ex cheated on her she is finished with men.  All she wants to do is renovate her grandmother’s old home to make it into a B&B.  She doesn’t expect to kiss a sexy man on a whim at a bar who doesn’t return when he said he would.  But, when the sexy man appears on her doorstep the next day as the guy who will renovate her home she is thrown for a loop.  Jax doesn’t expect to see the sexy Ashton again.  Let alone have her effect him the way she does.  As the sexual tension simmers between them so does the things left unsaid.  Will Jax and Ashton survive the lies or will nothing get made over?

I adored this book.  This was a fun read.  Jax and Ashton were so steamy you could practically feel it through the pages.  It isn’t just them that makes this book so good.  Mrs. C, Rufus, JC van Ram and Lulu will make you laugh out loud.  This story is a mix of Property Brothers and Modern Family.  You will laugh out loud at the shenanigans of JC van Ram and you will swoon at the idea of Jax using the hammer shirtless.  You will also see the typical romance and the trials of lies and trust.  With all good stories the happily ever after will be well worth the read.  If you are looking for another great summer read with quirky characters and mouthy birds, then look no further.

Synopsis

Sometimes it only takes a minute. A connection of eyes across a room, and everything changes. I was a cocktail waitress with a fondness for partying and meaningless sex.
He owned half of Vegas, with the reputation to match. I should have turned away. Instead, I stepped closer. Then, the lies started.
Rumors spread.
Stalking commenced.
And someone died. None of it stopped me from falling in love.

Review:

Bell is just living her life.  She is going to school and working at a casino.  What she doesn’t count on is meeting Dario.  Dario is the one guy in Vegas you don’t want to be involved with or have him interested in you.  Bell does just that.  As Bell and Dario get swept up together the danger around them escalates.  Just when they could get a chance at a happily ever after their life is flipped upside down.

This was my first Alessandra Torre book.  I am hooked.  This was gripping, exciting page turning book.  The story was a fairly typical romance with the back drop of Las Vegas.  What makes this much more than that is the suspense and danger.  As you turn the page you don’t know what will happen next.  This was a great first book in this duet.  The story has a perfect mix of sexy romance and suspense.  Dario and Bell are very complex characters that add to the depth of the story.  If you are looking for a great summer suspense, this should be a go to for you.

BOOK BLURB:

A new romantic comedy about love, letting go, and little green men from USA Today Bestselling author Daisy Prescott.

My father was abducted by aliens.

Or so I believed for the last eighteen years.

After my mother’s death, I moved to Roswell, capital of all things alien. I’m going to find out the truth and nothing will stop me . . . except Boone Santos.

Compared to the intergalactic tinfoil hat brigade, he’s a god amongst mere mortals. Too handsome for his own good (and mine), with a grumpy arrogance, and the most beautiful smile ever—he smashes my plan to pieces like a UFO crashing into the desert.

I need a tinfoil hat for my heart.

Do I believe in aliens? I’m not sure.

What do I believe? I’m not going to fall in love with Boone. Definitely not . . .

Review:

Lucy has always thought her father was abducted by aliens.  No one has ever contradicted that, so when she forced into a change she chooses to go west.   Finding herself in Roswell, Lucy finds herself obsessed with aliens and controversy.  When she meets a sexy stranger in the diner she works, she finds herself becoming distracted.  Before she knows it, it feels like she is laying down roots.  Its the last thing she wants but she feels the pull toward the people she has befriended.  Can her yearn to learn about her father drive her to leave the last person she wants to leave?

I loved this book.  Lucy is an incredible character.  She is complex and entertaining.  This is probably one of the most unique stories I have read this year.  Putting a love story in the middle of Roswell and alien ideas is exciting and enthralling.  Boone was a great hero for this story.  He was so easy to like and fall for.  For a character like Lucy, he is the only person for her.  It isn’t just Lucy and Boone who are integral for this story to be fantastic.  The setting and the friends and family surrounding her are so very important.  They bring a depth to the story that just makes it more poignant.  If you are looking for that unique story that will stick with you,  you have found it in this one.  Daisy Prescott has written yet another unforgettable story.

Review: The Plan by Katie Ashley

THEPLAN_Banner

The Plan (1)**NEW RELEASE** – THE PLAN by Katie Ashley – Now LIVE!
BLURB:

For Jenny O’Malley, the plan was supposed to be easy. Become the surrogate for her friends, Connor and Jeff, deliver their healthy baby, and earn some money towards her student loans. But as the saying goes, the best-laid plans often go awry. Especially when you’re looking at the prospect of not getting laid for a long, long time.

With T-Minus two weeks to insemination, Jenny decides to take her friend, Casey’s, suggestion to have one wild fling before she’s saddled with heartburn and stretchmarks. When a tall, dark and handsome man swaggers into the bar where she works in skin-tight jeans, cowboy boots, and a Stetson, Jenny knows he is the one. After a scorching night of banging boots until dawn, Jenny is a little sad to see her Cowboy in Shining Armor leave.

When he reenters her life a few weeks later, she never could have imagined a positive sign could be such a negative.

Review:

Jenny had a plan.  It was supposed to be easy.  Become a surrogate for two very deserving people and earn money toward college.  What she doesn’t plan on is the sexy cowboy who is supposed to be just a one night stand before she becomes pregnant.  When that one night stand pops back up at the more inopportune time what’s a pregnant girl to do?
Jenny and Brett’s story was sweet.  I enjoyed this shorter story.  It had a great blend of romance and twists with just a dash of humor.  Anyone who has dreamed of a cowboy walking into their life for just a while will enjoy this story.  Brett and Jenny’s love story moves quickly but it manages to keep the realistic and natural feel of a slow moving love story.  Add in a pregnancy and you get some great twists.  If you are looking for a quick read with a great story look no further.

Review: Mornings on Main by Jodi Thomas

From the beloved and bestselling author of the Ransom Canyon and Harmony, Texas series comes a powerful, heartwarming story about generations of family and the ironclad bonds they forge. Order your copy of MORNINGS ON MAIN today!

When Jillian James lands in the small town Texas community of Laurel Springs, she’s definitely not planning to stay-except to find a few clues about the father who abandoned her and destroyed her faith in family.

Connor Larady is a single dad, and the only one caring for his grandmother, Eugenia, who has Alzheimer’s. And now he has to close Eugenia’s quilt shop. When Connor meets down-on-her-luck Jillian, he’s out of options. Can he trust the newcomer to do right by his grandmother’s legacy?

Jillian is done with relationships. But as she grows closer to Connor and Eugenia, she must consider giving up her nomadic life for a future with those who need her.

An inspiring family saga that asks us to consider what love and chosen family really mean.

Review:

Jillian has never had roots.  She is content wandering just like her dad.  When she lands in Laurel Springs she follows all the rules her father taught her.  She doesn’t expect to meet Connor.  Connor doesn’t want a relationship.  Ever since his daughter’s mother he has sworn them off.  But, when the mysterious Jillian comes to Laurel Springs he finds himself drifting more and more toward her.  Can Jillian and Connor find a way to break down their ages old walls?

This is my first Jodi Thomas book.  I really enjoyed the story and its characters.  The story flowed wonderfully between POV’s.  Jillian and Connor are two very complex characters.  As the story grew you really saw them changing.  It made it a really great story that keeps the reader engaged.  The small town feel and complexity of the characters really brought this story to life.  This may have been my first Jodi Thomas book but it won’t be my last.

Excerpt:

“Wait.” He hadn’t had a single bite for the job at the quilt shop in weeks. Everyone in town knew what it was and no one wanted it. But this outsider just might be dumb enough to take it. “It’s only a short-term job. Three or four months at the most, but it pays fifteen dollars an hour if you have the right skills.”

“What skills?”

She wasn’t running at the thought of working in a quilt shop. That was a good sign. “My grandmother has owned the town’s quilt shop for over fifty years. She’s closing down, but what we need done has to be accomplished carefully. Every quilt in the place has to be cataloged for the county museum. She holds the history of this town in there.”

Connor had no idea how to say what he needed to say, but he had to be honest. “Gram’s slipping a little. Beginning to forget things. Over the years she’s collected and made quilts that mean a great deal to the people of Laurel Springs. They’ll have to be treated with care. The history of each one logged and photographed.”

“Museum-quality preservation. I understand. I worked at the Southwest Collection on the Texas Tech campus while I was in college. My salary will be twenty an hour for that detailed kind of work.”

She stood her ground and he had no doubt she knew what to do. Which was more than he knew about the process. The county curator had been excited about the collection but offered no time or advice.

Now Connor was sure he was the one afraid of her. “All right. I’ll walk you over and let you meet my grandmother. If you last an hour, you’re on the payroll. She’ll be the boss. Some days you’ll be working at her pace.”

Nodding, she passed through the front door he held open. When they started across the street, she hesitated. “Aren’t you going to lock your office door?”

“What, and hamper anyone trying to steal my copier? No way.”

The woman was giving him that look again. She’d obviously decided he was missing critical brain cells.

“I’m Jillian James.” She held out her hand, palm up as if to say, your turn next.

“Connor Larady.” He grinned. “I’m the town mayor.”

She didn’t look impressed. She’d probably heard he’d run unopposed.

Without another word, they stepped inside the quilt shop. He didn’t miss her slight gasp as she looked up at the size of the place. It widened out from the small storefront windows in a pie-slice shape, with two stories opening to an antique tin ceiling. Massive fans turned slowly, so far above he couldn’t feel the air move.

✮✮✮WANDERLUST is here! Grab your copy today! ✮✮✮

From #1 NYT bestselling author Lauren Blakely comes a sexy new standalone romance!

The first time I met him, his sexy British accent almost talked me into giving him my number on the spot. The second time, he nearly charmed the panties off me with his wit. Then I learned he’s the key to success in my new job in Paris. The man who tempts me into fling-worthy dirty daydreams has turned out to be my personal translator, and his accent is the hottest thing I’ve ever heard.

My mantra is simple — Don’t mix business with pleasure.

I do my best to resist him as he teaches me how to converse with my co-workers, navigate the metro and order the perfect bottle of wine at dinner. But I also figure out how to tell the charming and clever man what I most want to say — that I want him to take me back to his flat — tonight.

Except there’s a catch…

***

One more assignment before I take off on my big adventure…

And it involves the toughest work ever — resisting the fetching American woman I spend all my days with. But you know what they say about best intentions. Soon, we’re spending our nights tangled together, and I don’t want to let her go. The trouble is, my wanderlust is calling to me, and before we know it I’ll be traveling the globe to fulfill a promise I made long ago.

What could possibly go wrong with falling in love in Paris? Nothing…unless one of you is leaving.

Review:

Joy is starting over.  It just so happens she is starting over in Paris.  The problem is she doesn’t know the language.  Her company hires a translator to help her acclimate.  Surprisingly, Joy has already met him.  He is the hot British guy she met at a cafe.  Griffin knows he shouldn’t mix business with pleasure.  Too many complications plus he is only going to be here temporarily.  What neither of them count on is falling in love.  What happens when one is ready to admit that and they other is still ready to leave it behind?

This is another fantastic book by Lauren Blakely.  Joy and Griffin are fun and sexy characters.  The story is addictive and will leave you with a book hang over.  Paris is a wonderful backdrop for this romance.  I challenge any one to read this and not fall in love with both the characters and the city.  This book has made me want to learn a new language and to travel the world.  Along with Joy and Griffin, their friends add wonderful depth to this romance.  They are all fun and complex characters.  If you enjoy a good romance in a romantic city then you need to run out and pick this book up.

EXCERPT:

The Reulag Balhaire was not in the business of saving other ships. It was generally considered unwise to approach another ship unless one was prepared to have a hull shattered by cannon fire. But their curiosity was aroused. The burning ship was just a spot in the distance now, so they’d set course for the starboard side of the smaller ship, a gun pointed at the forecastle in the event there was trouble.

Aulay watched the smaller ship slowly come into view, its outline muted against the darkening sky, the clouds weighing down on the masts. It wasn’t until they were almost on the ship that they could see it was listing.

Iain the Red was studying it as they approached. “No’ a fly boat, no,” he said. “A bilander.”

“A bilander!” Beaty blustered. “What nonsense!”

Whether a fly boat or bilander, neither were particularly well suited for the open seas. “Is there a flag?” he asked.

“No.” Iain the Red paused, then laughed. “Look at them now, trying to lower the sail.” He laughed again with great amusement. “They look like children romping around a bloody maypole! Look at them trying to untangle those shroud lines, aye? They’re twisted up every which way—oof, there went one, down on his arse!”

The men gathered at the railing to watch, and laughed at the blundering of the crew on the other ship as they tried to free a sail from a broken mast with what looked like a lot of pushing and shoving. “Aye, give it over, Iain, let’s have a look,” one said, and they began to pass the spyglass around, all of them doubling over with mirth.

The spyglass came back around to Iain, but when he held it up, he stopped laughing. “Diah, de an diabhal?” he exclaimed and lowered the instrument, turning a wide-eyed look to Aulay.

“What, then?” Aulay asked, feeling a mild tick of alarm, imagining a gun pointed at them, or a pirate’s flag being raised.

“A lady,” Iain said, as if he’d never seen one.

A lady? It was not unheard of for one to be on the high seas; wives of captains sometimes sailed with them. If it were anyone else, a lady of importance, she’d not be sailing on a rickety boat like that.

“In a proper gown and everything,” Iain said, his voice full of awe.

Aulay didn’t know what a proper gown meant to Iain, so he motioned for the spyglass to have a look. He could scarcely make her out, but it was definitely a woman standing at the railing, holding a white flag that almost matched the color of the hair that whipped long and unbound about her face. There were a few men beside her, all of them clinging to the railing, all of them looking rather desperately in the direction of his ship.

Aulay instructed Beaty to maneuver closer, and when there was nothing but a small bit of sea between the two ships, the men’s frantic attention to the sail on the other ship was forgotten in favor of lowering a jolly boat down the hull. There was more chaotic shoving among them until four men scrambled down a rope ladder into the boat and began to row with abandon toward the ReulagBalhaire. The woman remained behind on the ship’s deck with a few men, including one that was the size of a small mountain, towering a head above all the others.

When the smaller boat reached them, one of the men grabbed on to the rope ladder to steady them, and one rose to standing, bracing his legs apart to keep his balance. “Madainnmhath,” he called up, and with an affected swirl of his hand, he bowed low. And very nearly tipped over the side when a swell caught him unawares.

“Scots, then,” Beaty said. “That’s something, at least.”

“We are in need of your help, kind sirs!” the man called up, having managed to right himself. “We’ve been set upon by pirates, aye?” He spoke with a strange cadence, as if he were a town crier delivering this news to a crowded venue.

The men did not carry swords or guns that Aulay could see. It seemed all they could do to keep the jolly from tipping too far to one side. “That ship flew the colors of the king,” he called down.

The spokesman looked startled. He squatted down to consult the other men in his small boat. A flurry of shaking heads and talking over one another ensued, until the man stood up again and said, “She flew no such flag when she fired, on me word, sir! She fired with no provocation from us!” He pressed his hand to his chest quite earnestly.

Review: Book of Souls by Nadine Nightingale

Today we have the blog tour for Book of Souls by Nadine Nightingale! Check it out and be sure to grab your copy today!

Title: Book of Souls

Author: Nadine Nightingale

Genre: Paranormal Romance

About Book of Souls:

They call me Angel of Death, but my name is Nisha Blake. I am Shepherdstown’s living urban legend. My life, a tale of the macabre.

People avoid me like the plague. Well, everyone but my friends. They don’t see the Angel of Death when they look at me. They see poor, broken Nisha—the bully victim, suffering from vicious night terrors and vivid hallucinations.

Things take a turn for the worse when Blaze shows up. He’s a too hot, tattooed, bad-ass MMA fighter from London, hell-bent on getting to know me. Since he walked into my miserable life, my hallucinations graduated to a point where I can no longer differentiate between fiction and reality.

I am insane.
Broken beyond repair.
Or so I think until—

I uncover a secret form the past—a link between all the deaths, my hallucinations, and my night terrors. It’s then I understand I’m not the Angel of Death.

I am something else.
Someone else.

Review:

Nisha is the town outcast.  Thought of as the local Angel of Death she lives through ridicule, bullying and so much more.  When Blaze enters her life she tries to distance herself.  Knowing that there is a chance of endangering him.  While she tries to live a normal life and tries to keep her friends and family safe, her delusions become more than she can accept.  Something more is coming over her.  Will she be able to survive knowing who or what she really is?

This was a fantastic new read.  I have found a new author and series.  This young adult book brings alive a wonderful world of Egyptian Gods, real life teenage strife and love.  The story is wonderfully weaved with memorable characters and a story that grabs hold and won’t let go.  Nisha and Blaze are two very complex characters for being teenagers.  They are definitely older than their years and it shows in the story and relationship with them and their friends.  Along with the wonderful Nisha and Blaze we have their friends: Izzy, Oz, Shaggy and Scooby.  I had to read the last two names twice the first time I read it they do add a wonderful lightness to a fairly deep and complex paranormal story.  After reading this book, I find I cannot wait for the next wonderful installment in this series.  There is so much to look forward to.

BROKEN BEAUTIFUL HEARTS Synopsis:

From #1 New York Times–bestselling author Kami Garcia comes a red-hot romance that will break your heart and put it back together again.

Her heart has to break before it can open.

When star soccer player Peyton Rios receives an offer from her first-choice college, senior year starts off exactly as planned. But when Peyton uncovers her boyfriend’s dark secret, she confronts him—and finds herself falling down a flight of stairs. Peyton’s knee—and maybe her dream of going pro—is shattered. Everyone is talking: Was she pushed, or did she fall? Peyton knows the truth, even if no one believes her.

He has to let someone in before it’s too late.

With her future on the line, Peyton goes to stay with her uncle in a small Tennessee town to focus on her recovery. Dating is the last thing on her mind—until she meets sweet, sexy Owen Law.

But Peyton doesn’t trust her heart, especially when she senses that Owen is hiding something. When their secrets are finally exposed, Peyton has to decide if love is worth fighting for.

Review:

Peyton has a wonderful future ahead of her.  The just got into a great college along with a starting position on their women’s soccer team. Everything is going great.  That is until she discovers a horrible secret her boyfriend is hiding.  When she confronts him he does the worse and manages to change her whole future.  Once things change irrevocably her mom makes her move in with her uncle and her cousins.  Knowing she only has to survive this new school in life for a few months she doesn’t expect to meet Owen.  Owen has secrets like she does.  Will they be able to finally confide in someone or will they break each other more than they already are?

This is my first Kami Garcia book.  I am now officially a fan.  Peyton and Owen’s story is fantastically told.  I couldn’t put this book down once I started.  I was a zombie at work the next day when I didn’t sleep because I needed to finish just one more chapter. This is a wonderful story for young women to read.  It brings a level of reality into a genre that doesn’t always have this kind of seriousness.  Both Peyton and Owen are broken in a way that only they can mend.  They build trust with each other but since they are both teenagers they do break each other again.  Another great aspect of this story were the wonderful side characters.  Her twin cousins and uncle were the best.  They were all very protective yet very much teenagers (the cousins not the uncle).  Their own complicated love stories added some light hearted fun in a fairly serious story.  Kami Garcia is able to weave a story that is addictive, exciting and unputdownable.  I know the next book she comes out with I will be picking up ASAP.  If you are like me, a Kami Garcia virgin,  then run out and get this book!  You will not regret it.
