EXCERPT :

“I want to know why you wear a damned burlap sack and flip-flops every damned day. You have access to anything you want, but the only times you aren’t dressed like a medieval monk are when you leave Sheoul-gra.” Azagoth cocked his head and intensified his focus, leaving Razr feeling like a germ under a microscope. “Is it part of your punishment?”

Razr started. He’d been living in Sheoul-gra and working in Azagoth’s employ for over a year now, and this was the first time his boss had asked him anything that wasn’t work-related.

“Yes,” Razr said, but it was a simple answer to a complex issue.

“Your situation is unique. You aren’t fallen, but you aren’t a Heavenly angel, either. You aren’t even Unfallen,” Azagoth said, referring to the in-between state of an angel who had lost his wings but who hadn’t entered Sheoul, the demon realm, to complete his fall from grace. He glided over to the wet bar and splashed rum into two glasses. “Heaven created a new designation of angel just for you.”

“Yeah,” Razr drawled. “Ain’t I special.” Except he wasn’t. There was another who had shared his status, his former lover Darlah, presumed dead after failing to return from a mission.

A mission that was now Razr’s alone.

Azagoth handed him one of the glasses, and Razr struggled to hide his surprise. And suspicion. The male rarely acknowledged his existence, let alone treated him like an equal. “For some reason, you are special.”

This was really getting weird. Azagoth had never shown any interest in him, but honestly, Razr was shocked that the guy didn’t know more about Razr’s story. He’d figured Heaven would have given Azagoth the full scoop, but apparently not.

“What I can’t figure out,” Azagoth continued, “is why you haven’t managed to take care of your business and get back into Heaven.”

Unable to remain still under this bizarre scrutiny, Razr swirled the rum around in his glass. “It’s not like you give me a lot of free time.”

“So it’s my fault?” Azagoth’s voice was smooth as velvet and just dark enough to raise the hair on Razr’s head. One didn’t just accuse the Grim Reaper of stalling shit. Not if they liked wearing their skin.

“Not at all,” Razr replied carefully, because his skin was pretty useful right where it was. “It’s just that I have limited resources in Sheoul-gra. I need more time in the human and demon realms.”

Author Profile: Larissa Ione

This week’s Author Profile is Larissa Ione.  I chose her this week because I have recently become addicted to her books.  I have read all of her Lords of the Deliverance series and plan to start her Demonica series.  She has been recommended as a phenomenal story-teller and all you have to do is pick up one of her books to know that is true.

Larissa Ione is an Airforce Veteran who traded in Meteorology for writing.  She like many other writers has been a writer/reader since she was able to read and write.  But, her penchant for subjects not common place for 12 year olds made her stand out.  She grew up loving Stephen King and Jack London.  That being said as she got older her tastes evolved and she went from fantasy to historical fiction to historical romance.  As she exhausted each of these genres she developed her love for passion and romance.  It was here that she started focusing her writing on romance and joined the RWA and soon began getting some of her pieces published.  Her first sale came in 2006 and she has been going strong ever since.  Ms. Ione currently lives in Wisconsin with her husband, son, a cat named Vegas, and her very own hellhound, a King Shepherd named Hexe.

I have really been drawn in by Ms. Ione’s writing.  Her stories are always action packed and full of romance.  Not all writers can be successful at this blend.  You can tell within her writing the many different genres she has liked her in past.  She brings all of her past and present interests in to tell a story that is both unique and well written.  An excellent example of Ms. Ione’s stellar writing abilities is her new book, Lethal Rider.  I would recommend any of Ms. Ione’s Lord of Deliverance books and I know I have her Demonica series, starting with Pleasure Unbound, on my TBR list.

Review: Lethal Rider by Larissa Ione

This weekend I finished the third book in Larissa Ione’s Lords of Deliverance series.  This was a highly anticipated continuation of the Four Horseman Saga.  Reader’s were given a little taste of what would be in this book  in her previous book, Immortal Rider.  Reader’s knew coming into the book that the Aegis sent Regan to have sex with Thanatos (Death) to get pregnant.  The snippet from that book left us with Thanatos incapacitated after decimating Greenland and Regan running out of his house and into Aegis arms.

Lethal Rider begins with Regan eight months pregnant with Thanatos’s child.  While Regan is sequestered away at the  Aegis headquarters, Thanatos is being held captive by his own siblings with hell-hound saliva.  Thanatos is finally freed when a dose of the saliva is not given in a timely manner and he escapes.  The thought foremost in his mind is to find Regan and kill her.  In the meantime, Regan finds herself being pursued by freed vampires in the Aegis headquarters.  Just before things can get lethal Thanatos storms in and kidnaps Regan.  This is where the story really begins.  Regan is about two weeks till her due date and Thanatos is floored by her plans with the baby after it is born.  While Thanatos and Regan are fighting each other yet still starting anew they have to also fight Pestilence and his many assassins.  Pestilence’s goal is to kill Thanatos’s child and by doing so breaking his seal making him Death to usher in the Apocalypse.

All in all this was an excellent continuation of the Lords of Deliverance series.  Like many of these books you know they are going to get together in the end but its the getting there that is the most fun and interesting.  The perilous situations, tragic endings and new beginnings make for a fantastic read.  I can’t wait to find out how Ms. Ione will wrap up this series.  I would recommend reading the first in her series Eternal Rider before jumping to this one.  You will understand the story much better. It has also been recommend to me to read her Demonica series before this one, but I personally did not do that. I do know that you see a lot of the characters from that series in the Lords of Deliverance series.
