Gena Showalter, the New York Times bestselling author who brought you the Lords of the Underworld, introduces a scorching new paranormal romance series… Gods of War.

Knox of Iviland has spent his life competing in the All Wars, where vicious warriors with supernatural powers fight to the death to claim new realms. One winner takes everything—and all losers die. Enslaved as a child for his ability to control shadows, the most ruthless champion in history will stop at nothing to kill his king. But first he must win the battle for Earth. When a fearsome weapon imprisons every combatant in ice, centuries pass without progress…until she walks in.

Vale London craves a fun arctic getaway with her foster sister before settling down to open a bakery. Street-tough but vulnerable, she is unprepared to find ancient gods escaping a frozen cave—merciless beings who target her when she inadvertently enters their war.

Though Vale is now his enemy, Knox is consumed with lust and a fierce need to protect her. But only one combatant can prove victorious, and he will have to choose: live for freedom, or die for love.

Review:

Knox’s life has been spent winning All Wars for his king.  He is single minded in his brutality to win the wars at all cost.  When his and the other competitors are stopped from competing for 1400 years.  Vale has had a tough life.  She wants to take her sister on one final adventure before they start their business.  What she doesn’t expect to find are a group of frozen warriors.  When these warriors break free Vale and her sister are thrust into this war for Earth.  Knox is immediately drawn to Vale.  Though all his instincts pull him to destroy everything…but Vale.  Can Vale and Knox get a happily ever after when their lives are on the line every second of every day?

The Queen of paranormal romance is back.  Gena Showalter’s newest series is incredibly exciting.  She is one of the most talented world builders around.  Knox and Vale are incredibly complex and exciting.  Not only are their characters multi-faceted and relatable but they are steeped in the paranormal world.  Knox and Vale aren’t the only great characters.  The rest of the warriors and their powers and worlds are incredibly detailed and interesting.  Gena Showalter has really done a good job of creating this new series.  It was a little slow at start but once the story really got going it was hard to put the book down to go to work.  If you are looking for a new exciting paranormal romance then pick up this new series by Gena Showalter.

Review: Firstlife (Everlife #1) by Gena Showalter

As many of you know, I am a huge Gena Showalter fan.  Firstlife has been on my tbr list since it came out.  I truly love everything that Gena writes.  This new YA series is included.  It is incredibly imaginative, exciting and engaging.  This is only book 1 and I can’t wait to get my grubby fingers on the next 2.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.  Keep an eye out for my reviews of the next books.

25785357Book Blurb:

Step one…you die.

ONE CHOICE. TWO REALMS. NO SECOND CHANCE.

Tenley “Ten” Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she’ll live — after she dies. There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, long-time enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms that will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she’s drawn to isn’t where the boy she’s falling for lives? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…

Review:

Ten is a typical teenager waiting to turn 18.  The only difference is she is currently in an asylum.  Her days are filled with beatings, starving and adding days to her calendar.  She only had to make a choice to leave.  Choose where she wants to go after her death.  Easy enough, rt?  Not so much.  Choosing between Troika and Myriad isn’t easy for her.  But, when she meets two laborers each having their own agenda.  Can Ten really have what she wants?  Real freedom to choose or will she be forced into a choice she doesn’t want?  How do you choose how to spend your Everlife?

I have totally fallen for this new series.  Could I love Gena Showalter more?  I didn’t think so, but I do.   This is one of the most creative stories I’ve read in awhile.  This is a world that should be family but isn’t.  The ideas of death, life after death and reincarnation are all subjects that not many young adult authors attempt to tackle.  Ten, Killian and Archer are all dynamic and complex characters.  Just when you think you know them, they throw you for a loop.  The complex details of Troika and Myriad is astounding.  I found myself imagining heaven and hell without the good/evil connotation.  Once I started this book I couldn’t put it down.  Gena Showalter weaves a world that you can dive into.  Like her White Rabbit Chronicles, the Everlife series will be engaging for young adults but adults will be drawn to the philosophical part of the world.  If you haven’t read anything by Gena Showalter, I suggest picking up this gem…and while your at it you will want to pick of the next two because you will want to know what happens next for Ten.

Review: Can’t Let Go (The Original Heartbreakers #5) by Gena Showalter

I am lucky enough to bring to you today, Can’t Let Go.  It’s number 5 in The Original Heartbreakers series.  I love Gena Showalter’s writing.  This next book in the series really hammers home how wonderful Gena Showalter is at writing romance.  Jude and Ryanne’s story is one of the best in this series.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.

, Manually ReleasedBook Blurb:

With trust issues a mile long, Ryanne Wade has sworn off men.  Then Jude Laurent walks into her bar and all bets are off.  The former Army Ranger has suffered unimaginably, first being maimed in battle then losing his wife and daughters to a drunk driver. Making the brooding widower smile is priority one. Resisting him? Impossible.

To Jude, Ryanne is off limits. And yet the beautiful bartender who serves alcohol to potential motorists tempts him like no other. When a rival bar threatens her livelihood, and her life, he can’t turn away.  She triggers something in him he thought long buried, and he’s determined to protect her, whatever the cost.

As their already scorching attraction continues to heat, the damaged soldier knows he must let go of his past to hold on to his future…or risk losing the second chance he desperately needs.

Review:

Ryanne can’t keep her gaze away from the very broody Jude.  She knows she shouldn’t want the man with the dark past.  She can’t seem to help herself though.  Jude can’t explain why he can’t stay away from Ryanne and her bar.  With his history, her bar should be the last place he would want to be.  As he becomes her security and she decides she needs to make his life incredibly difficult they are drawn closer and closer.  Can the two of them let go of the pasts that haunt them?  Or will holding onto the past drown any possibility they have?

This series is one of my favorites.  I love how the alpha males are flawed in a very real way and their heroines find ways to rescue themselves and the men they love.  Ryanne and Jude are no different.  Jude is probably one of the darkest characters in this series.  He is so dynamic and complex.  Ryanne is a great foil for him.  She is relentless and unable to be controlled by a man who loves control.  Ryanne and Jude are only one element though.  Their friends/family really make this story entertaining and fun, even when it is series.  These flawed heroes are the best.  If you haven’t started this series it is never too late.  You will love it!  Can’t wait for Brock’s story next!

Review: Can’t Hardly Breathe by Gena Showalter

CAN’T HARDLY BREATHE Synopsis:

New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with an irresistible Original Heartbreakers story about a woman who’s never felt desired and the man who wants her more than air to breathe…

Bullied in high school, Dorothea Mathis’s past is full of memories she’d rather forget. But there’s one she can’t seem to shake—her longstanding crush on former Army Ranger Daniel Porter.  Now that the sexy bad boy has started using her inn as his personal playground, she should kick him out…but his every heated glance makes her want to join him instead.

Daniel returned to Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma to care for his ailing father and burn off a little steam with no strings attached. Though he craves the curvy Dorothea night and day, he’s as marred by his past as she is by hers. The more he desires her, the more he fears losing her.

But every sizzling encounter leaves him desperate for more, and soon Daniel must make a choice: take a chance on love or walk away forever.

Review:

Dorothea Mathis has always had a crush on Daniel Porter.  He’s always been out of reach.  That is until he begins staying at her inn.  She decides to take the leap and offer him one night with her.  The reaction she gets she doesn’t expect.  Daniel didn’t expect Dorothea to come to his door in only a raincoat.  His reaction is purely out of shock.  But, he regrets it immediately.  When he realizes he can’t get her out of his mind he makes it his mission to have her.  Though now she won’t be so easy.  Can these two people, who are entrenched in their dark places, come together to find the light?

I LOVE this series!!!  Gena Showalter is one of my favorite authors.  But, of all her series’ this is one of my top three.  I have been waiting for Thea and Daniel’s book since the end of West and Jessie Kay’s book.  All the books in this series have a serious emotional component to them.  But, this one really takes you deep.  She truly explores how two people coping with two different forms of PTSD come together to heal.  The passion and steaminess between them will ignite you from the inside out.  I was truly addicted to this book until the very end.  Though both characters have their ways that will definitely bug you, you will fall in love with both and the story that comes along.  I will be counting days until we get to see Ryanne and Jude’s story.  If you haven’t read any of Gena Showalter’s books you need to pick this one up immediately.  You will fall in love with this town  and these people

Excerpt :

Dorothea Mathis studied the last room on her cleanup schedule and groaned. The bed had been wrecked, the comforter and pillows tossed haphazardly on the floor. A pair of panties hung from a bedpost. The TV remote had been busted, the pieces scattered across the nightstand. Wet towels created a path to the bathroom door, and the trash can…

Oh, gag me! The trash can contained used condoms.

The place needed to be decontaminated by people wearing hazmat suits.

Am I up to date on my vaccinations?

With a sigh, Dorothea anchored earbuds in place, keyed up her iPod and donned a pair of latex gloves. One—germs. Gross! Two—she was protective of the green nail polish she’d applied only that morning.

She selected color based on mood. Green = irritated.

Somehow she’d known today would suck balls.

Her mom must have checked in Mr. and Ms. Pigsty last night after Dorothea had gone to bed. Since she had a 4:00 a.m. wake-up call, she tended to hit the sack by 9:00 p.m. Granny hours, her sister, Holly, liked to tell her.

Dorothea picked up the dirty towels, removed the panties from the post, emptied the trash, changed the sheets on the bed, straightened the pillows and covers, and tossed the remote remains, planning to bill the Pigstys for a new one.

Time was limited this morning. She’d promised to drive her mother into the city in— Crap! Less than an hour. She rushed through dusting and began vacuuming. As the machine swallowed dirt and debris, she tried not to envy her mother. Carol would soon be enjoying her fourth “singles retreat” of the year. Her fourth, but certainly not her last. She stayed at the Michaelson, a five-star hotel owned by the richest guy in Strawberry Valley, Dane Michaelson. Dane was married to a local girl Dorothea had gone to school with, and he allowed Carol to stay free of charge. No doubt about it, she took full advantage, attending speed-dating sessions, mixers and a plethora of themed parties.

Her busy love life was just one of the many reasons she’d given the Strawberry Inn to Dorothea.

The wheels on her cart suddenly squeaked, the sound louder than her music. Yanking out the earbuds, she spun.

Surprise expelled the air from her lungs, leaving her gasping. This so wasn’t happening right now.

It couldn’t be happening.

Nightmares didn’t really come to life. Nor did pornos. Not that she watched those…very often. But dang it, this had to be one or the other.

The sexiest man on the planet had just stridden into the room. He was shirtless, sweat glistening on his eight pack—and his name was Daniel Porter.

The Daniel. The childhood crush she’d never forgotten. The first boy to break her already fragile heart.

She gulped. What was he doing here?

Wait. Like she really needed to ponder this one. Welcome back, Mr. Pigsty.

Her hands trembled as she yanked the vacuum cord from the electrical socket, the room descending into silence as the engine died.

I think you’re perfect just the way you are.

She smoothed her trembling hands down her “uniform,” a pair of blue scrubs that could take a licking and keep on ticking. “Uh, hi. Hello.” Oh, wow. Could she be any lamer? Definitely in a nightmare, not a porno. “Welcome back.”

He pulled the earbuds from his ears and gifted her with a small smile that failed to hide the lines of strain around his mouth. “Sorry about the mess. I planned to clean up before I checked out.” His gaze darted throughout the room, and he cringed. “I also plan to pay for the remote.”

What kind of sexual acrobatics had placed the poor remote in harm’s path, anyway?

Oh, my stars. A warm flush poured over Dorothea, threatening to overheat her. She almost fanned her cheeks for relief, barely stopped herself.

Look away! She tried, she really did, but Daniel was just so freaking beautiful. He was even taller now, and stronger, with a rough, tough face. His cheekbones were sharp, and his nose boasted a small notch in the center. Been broken a time or two? Dark stubble dusted his angular jaw, though the shadows couldn’t disguise the fine tracery of scars on his left cheek.

He was a modern-day warrior—literally. After high school, he’d joined the army, defending the country he loved.

This wasn’t the first time Dorothea had seen him since his return to town a few months ago, but her body reacted as if she’d never seen any man, heating and tingling in all the naughtiest places.

Act naturally. He’s just a customer.

A customer who’d wrecked a room during his most recent stay, but whatever. He was waiting for her to respond to his offer.

Let’s do this. “Yes, thank you. Payment would be appreciated.” She wound the vacuum cord around her arm, her motions clipped. “As for the room, I just need to tidy the bathroom, and I’ll be done.”

With his back to her, he stuffed his toiletries into an overnight bag. “I’ll get out of your way, then.”

During his senior year of high school, he hadn’t just slept with Madison Clark; he’d slept with a string of beautiful, popular girls, as if banging-and-bailing had finally been dubbed a national sport.

Good thing Dorothea hadn’t pursued him. He would have taken all her firsts and discarded her like garbage.

Instead, Jazz Connors had taken all her firsts and discarded her like garbage.

Anger boiled her blood until bitterness swept in, leaving a glaze of frost. Fire and ice. This wasn’t the first time they’d battled it out, and this wouldn’t be the last. The biggest downside? They ensured the wounds inside her hollowed-out chest never really had a chance to heal.

After graduation, she’d moved to the big bad city, enrolled in the University of Oklahoma’s meteorology program, met Jazz and gotten hitched, just as she’d always dreamed…only to return home several years later with a divorce and no degree.

A washed-up has-been by the age of twenty-four.

The Harder You Fall (Original Heartbreakers #3) by Gena Showalter

Today I get to share with you the latest installment of Gena Showalter’s Original Heartbreakers series.  I’m saying latest because I am really hoping this isn’t the last.  In this one we are finally getting West and Jessie Kay’s story.  This one is just as steamy as the others.  Reading this series has solidified Gena Showalter as one of the best storytellers I have read.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.

21848289Book Blurb:

Millionaire video-game creator Lincoln West has a dark and tragic past. The sought-after bachelor lives by a rigid schedule and a single rule—one relationship per year, lasting no more than two months. No exceptions. He moved to small town Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, with his brothers-by-circumstance hoping to escape the worst of his memories—until a brash beauty dredges up long-buried emotions.

A reformed party girl, Jessie Kay Dillon is determined to walk the straight and narrow. But her love-hate sizzle with West is just too irresistible. They can’t be near each other without tearing off their clothes, but the last thing she needs is to be his next two-month dump. Can she be the one exception? Because as any former girl-gone-wild knows: rules are made to be broken.

Review:

West has lived his life on a timetable for a long time.  When Jessie Kay walks into his life it throws him off completely.  He tries fighting what his body clearly wants.  Finally he can’t take it any more and offers her the only thing he can offer her.  But, Jessie Kay is now reformed and wants it all or nothing.  As the two of them fight what each desperately wants, will they eventually come to the same conclusion or will it end the way all of their relationships have ended?

I loved this installment.  This has been long awaited ever since the first book when we met Jace, West and Beck.  In West’s story we finally get to dive more into his backstory and why he is the way he is.  Leading up to this book we have had bits and pieces but now we know his reasoning for his actions.  We also get to see redemption for Jessie Kay.  She has been the party girl slacker up until this book.  This was the perfect mix of love, sex and deep emotions that only these two could evoke in a reader.  When you read this book you will be just like me and hope this isn’t the last in this series.  I would love to see Daniel get his happily ever after.  For all of you looking for a phenomenal romantic series run to pick this one up.  I guarantee you will not regret it.  I can’t wait to see what Gena Showalter comes out with next.

Review: The Hotter You Burn by Gena Showalter

Happy Sunday!  Today I have the next book in Gena Showalter’s Original Heartbreakers series.  This is yet another phenomenal book by the wonderful Gena Showalter.  It is steamy and sexy with a wonderful story.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.  I hope all of you have a fantastic rest of your weekend.  Be sure to keep an eye out.  I have lots of cool books coming up.

21845099Book Blurb:

Beck O’ckley is ruthless in the boardroom…and the bedroom. He’s never been with the same woman twice, and vows he never will. With a past as twisted as his, meaningless sex keeps the demons at bay. His motto: One and done. No harm, no foul.
Harlow Glass is the most hated girl in town. The beautiful artist is penniless, jobless and homeless. When she sneaks into Beck’s home—her ancestral estate—for food, she’s shocked by his early return…and her immediate, sizzling and intense attraction to him.
For the first time in Beck’s life, he can’t get a woman out of his mind. All too soon, friendship blooms into obsession and he’ll have to break her heart…or surrender his own

Review:

What happens when the most hated girl in town meets one of the hottest playboys in town?  Harlow Glass is never a welcome presence thanks to her reputation for being a bully.  When Harlow is caught in Beck’s new house, Beck becomes more than intrigued by the beautiful girl with the horrible reputation.  Harlow wants to desperately repair the damages she has done in the past but without having a job or a home it becomes tricky.  But, Beck has an idea to help her.  What Beck doesn’t count on are the feelings that Harlow produces.  Will Beck let Harlow in or will he push her away like everyone else?

I love this series.  This book just proves to me why Gena Showalter is one of the best authors to write romance.  Beck and Harlow’s story was so sweet and sexy.  It really makes you fall in love with the two of them.  Though their story is very sexy it also has its very funny parts.  The banter and sexual tension between Beck and Harlow is so entertaining it really has you turning each page quicker and quicker.  Before you know it you have come to the last page and are still begging for more.  The fantastic story writing with sexiness and steaminess makes for a book that you won’t want to put down.  I adored this book and can’t wait for the next.  I will truly miss these characters and town once this series is complete.  If you want a steamy read with a great story be sure to pick up Gena Showalter’s Original Heartbreaker’s series.

Review: The Closer You Come (The Original Heartbreakers #1) by Gena Showalter

Today I have a wonderful beach read for you.  Though it takes no place near a beach, it does have all the elements of a great beach read.  You have a hot guy, a steamy romance, some drama and excitement thrown in there to boot.  Gena Showalter is such a talent that I never seem to get enough of any series I read of hers.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.

21844938Book Blurb:

Just released from prison, Jase Hollister has a dark and twisted past. And now, he has only one goal: stay out of trouble. Strawberry Valley, Oklahoma, sounds like the perfect place for him and his two brothers-by-circumstance to settle down and live a nice, simple life. But model citizen isn’t exactly this rugged bachelor’s default setting—especially when it comes to a certain hot-blooded Southern beauty…

Brook Lynn Dillon has always been responsible. Not that it’s done her much good. The down-on-her-luck waitress is broke, single and fun-deprived. Until Jase comes along. He is dangerous, stunningly protective, breathtakingly sexy and as tempting as sin, and the passion sizzling between them is undeniable. But can it melt her resistance? After all, the right kind of trouble might be just what they both need.

Review:

Brook Lynn is always on the perpetual chase of keeping up with her sister.  After pulling a double shift thanks to the no-show of her sister she finds herself at a party searching for her sister.  She finally finds her in a bedroom with a guy that Brook Lynn can’t take her eyes off.  Unfortunately, she doesn’t have time to admire the fine specimen that is Jase.  Jase immediately sees the trouble that he got himself into.  He never planned on falling for anyone because of his background.  Who could possibly want to be with an ex-con?  When he meets Brook Lynn he realizes he both wants and needs to stay away from her.  Easier said than done for both of them.  Though they pretend to hate each other it is just their ways of trying to push themselves apart.   The more they pull apart the hotter things get.  But, when secrets are finally revealed can their walls be torn down or will it just be another brick in the wall?

I am totally in love with these guys.  Jase is definitely a heartbreaker even when he doesn’t want to be.  Brook Lynn was the perfect girl for him.  She didn’t take any of his crap and she was sassy to boot.  Their love story practically burns through the book.  Steamy scenes abound alongside emotionally charged events.  The more you learn about Jase the more any woman would fall for him.  Though he is tough he has a big heart that burns only for Brook Lynn.  I really liked the little bit of intrigue also.  It really propelled the story is a unique direction that made you love the characters even more.  Overall, I loved this book and this heartbreaker just as much as the introducing novella I have reviewed earlier.  I would recommend this for all the romance lovers out there.  I know I can’t wait for the next book.  Bring on Beck!
