Tattered by Devney Perry

Thea Landry has always known her place in modern-day society. It’s somewhere just above the trash can her mother dumped her in as a newborn but below the class where much comes easy. With her tattered shoes and bargain-bin clothes, her life has never been full of glamour.

So when a rich and charismatic man takes interest, she doesn’t fool herself into thinking their encounter is anything more than a one-night stand. Months later, she’s kicking herself for not getting his phone number. Or his last name. She’s given up hope of seeing him ever again.

Until one day, years later, Logan Kendrick waltzes into her life once more and turns everything she’s built upside down. This time around, she won’t make the same mistake. She’s going to fight to keep him in her life—not for herself.

But for their daughter.

Review:

Thea has had a rough life.  She always saw herself as trash.  That is until she had her daughter.  Her one night of hot sex with Logan gave her the love she always wanted.  Since they decided on an anonymous night she never thought she see him again.  When he sits down at a table at her bar she knows she must tell him about his daughter.   Logan didn’t expect to ever see Thea again.  He knew their one night felt like much more than sex.  Seeing her again floors him and spurs all those feeling back into action.  When the bombshell of him now being a father is dropped he doesn’t know how to react.  The one thing they both know is that they will fight to make everything great for their daughter, but will their relationship grow or fizzle out with the heat that is between them?

I adored this book.  I love Devney Perry as it is but this was a wonderful love story.  The love story isn’t just between a man and a woman but also a mother and daughter and father and daughter.  Thea and Landon are palpable in their sexy feelings and underlying love for each other.  There is also a lot of trauma that they have to fight through to get to the good stuff.  Their daughter Charlie was so awesome.  She is the best tomboy but so very complex.  She was just like any other 6yr old.  If you haven’t read a Devney Perry book yet, you need to pick this one up.  I became addicted to this story.  The characters are complex and enthralling.  The story is memorable and touching.  This book has all the hallmarks of a great book with a great book hangover.

Excerpt:

He stared at me for a long moment. “You’re sure she’s mine?”

“She’s yours.”

“Then that’s good enough.”

“I—really?” I blinked. He didn’t want to verify paternity? He just . . . trusted me?

He nodded. “Really.”

“I swear, I tried to find you, Logan. On my life, I swear it. But the hotel wouldn’t give me your name no matter how much I begged. And you paid cash for your drinks and never mentioned your last name. I tried, but I just . . . didn’t know where to start.”

“It’s not your fault. I believe you.”

The sincerity in his voice made my throat burn. Goddamn it. I was going to cry.

I’d worked so hard not to cry today. I’d fought to keep my emotions in check and my head from spinning out of control. But this was going to make me break.

I wanted so badly for Logan to believe that I hadn’t kept Charlie from him intentionally. The fact that a man like him would trust someone like me without proof meant more than he’d ever know.

“Thank you,” I choked out past the lump in my throat.

“So, um, is Charlie inside with your husband? Or boyfriend?”

The urge to cry disappeared and I barked out a laugh. “Smooth.”

He chuckled. “It’s been a long day for me. Give me a break, will you? This morning I was in New York, then I came to Montana for a business meeting and discovered a daughter. I’m off my game.”

Review: Unconscious Hearts by Harper Sloan

Ari Daniels didn’t count on her whole world tumbling down around her in a mess of shredded promises, broken love, and unbelievable heartbreak. Alone and stricken with grief, she shouldered the blame and eventually closed her heart off, refusing to open it for another. After all, anytime she tried, guilt and regret were waiting in the wings to remind her how painful it was.

A bet and one steamy night with a stranger force Ari to confront all she’s been hiding behind. She tries to move on, but he refuses to stand down, wanting what she is terrified to give—herself. This man may very well destroy her in the end, especially when it’s clear he has his own demons.

What happens when two broken souls come together, finally allowing themselves to believe in the beauty of love … only to have to fight harder than ever to keep it.

Review:

Ari has let her dark past control her for the past 7 years.  All that remains is her thriving business and her best friend, Piper.  When she meets a dark and handsome stranger wanting to sell her a lot of upscale items she can’t take her eyes off him.  Their attraction is immediate and flammable.  Unfortunately, for two pained souls there is never an easy happy ending.  When the past rears its ugly head can they survive it together or will their pain tear them apart before they begin?

This has been my first Harper Sloan book and I am highly impressed.  Ari and Thorn’s story was addictive and dramatic.  The pain that these two went through is felt through the story as it is told.  Their love is also felt.  Not to mention the very steamy sexy times.  All I am going to say is there is one hell of a Magic Mike moment. Ari and Thorn are very complex characters but as we are introduced to their friends and family, Wilder, Piper and London, you get sucked into the world that Harper Sloan has created.  Harper Sloan created a story set in Las Vegas but you won’t really know that.  This could have been set anywhere with its dynamic characters, complex emotional story and very sexy, sexy times. This is definitely a great beach read.  Though I do recommend being careful who you read this around.  You may blush at times.  If you haven’t read Harper Sloan, like I was before this, I recommend you pick up this first book in this series.  I can’t wait for the next book, Piper and Wilder’s story.

Excerpt:

His eyes get hard for a beat before his features smooth back out. “Yeah, beyond sure. No one to pass this shit down to, and even if there was, I wouldn’t be givin’ someone ideas of materialistic bullshit if I did. More to life than all this shit.”

“Okay, well, in that case …” I cough, not wanting to fight with him about our views when it comes to expensive wants versus needs. Last time I tried to argue the benefits of learning to care for and value something you work hard to buy, I had a black eye for almost two weeks. “In that case, I’m prepared to offer you a lump sum as a buyout for the whole collection, but I also want to mention, again, that consignment would be a more lucrative approach. Our buyout is just a standard percent of resale value, but consignment would allow us to mark up each to give you a larger profit.”

“Told you, babe, want it gone. I don’t give a shit about making it more lucrative. Look around you, hardly hurting.”

“Still, it’s my obligation to make sure you’re informed.”

“Consider me informed.”

“Okay … so I can offer a tentative amount of three million. I would need more time to inspect each item in depth for any defects that could affect the value and also to research a few pieces I feel may be limited editions so that could also affect the value. Meaning that amount could go up or down, but I wouldn’t expect it to be less than two point five or more than four point seven-ish. I wouldn’t need but maybe five days tops, and I can come during the day if that works better for your schedule.”

“You get this gone in two days, and I’ll take one mil.”

My whole body jerks back as if I had been slapped, staring at him like he was absolutely insane.

“That’s absolutely insane,” I tell him, voicing my thoughts.

“No, that’s me not giving a shit and wanting it gone so I can get out of this place and sell it and all this shit some hand with care placed around each room. Woulda left this shit in and sold it with the house, but for some reason I’ll never understand, you’re here, and I still just want it gone. You don’t need five days when I’m taking a two mil hit, babe. That would waste your time and mine, and I’m not a huge fan of wasting my time. Way I see it, you win, and I get a cold mil for some shit I didn’t buy nor care about. So you get this shit outta here, and all I need is that.”

“Thorn, I can’t in good conscience accept that.”

“Then dirty that conscience up and laugh your tight little ass all the way to the bank. Don’t give a shit as long as it’s gone, and I don’t have to do anything to make it that way.”

“This is insanity.”

“Insanity would be tossing it all at the Goodwill drop-off. I’m making money. You’re making money. Only thing sweeter than making money is doing it while I’m getting my cock wet, and babe, that only happens when my stock rises at the same time my cock does.” He steps closer, and I back into the island, my chest burning as I hold my breath. “Course, never had four mil worth of shit to sell to a woman who makes my cock rise without even trying.”

“Thorn,” I whisper, placing my hand against his hard chest with the intention of pushing him back. Only, the second his warmth burns through his shirt and hits my skin, I can’t move an inch.

“Ari,” he mocks, his eyes bright.

“I, uh, the paperwork …” I close my eyes and focus on my breaths and the words my mouth can’t seem to form. When my heart slows enough that I won’t die of a heart attack right here in heaven, I look back up at him. “You’re breaking my brain, Thorn. Please step back so I can think clearly without my body trying to die on me.”

The corners of his eyes crinkle as he continues to gaze down at me, but he does step back. My arm falling down to my side.

“As much as I wish I could have this room cleared out for you tomorrow, it will take at least until late Monday. I’ll need to meet with you beforehand to have some legal paperwork signed for the sale due to its size. But my lawyer is an old family friend, so I can have that by tomorrow around dinnertime, if you wouldn’t mind meeting me to take care of that. I won’t be able to get the cashier’s check until after those are signed, so late Monday is the best I can offer you.”

“Want this shit gone, but it’s hardly a hardship to wait a few more days if that means I’ve got a few more opportunities to try to make you want me as much as you want this shit around you,” he says, his deep voice thick with desire.

“Good heavens, you don’t stop, do you?”

“Not unless you beg, babe.”

“I think it’s best we went back to keeping things professional, Mr. Evans.”

This time, it isn’t a ghost of a smile on his lips. Oh, no. Not this time. If I thought he was handsome before this moment, I was a fool. Because Thorn Evans giving you his full, unhindered smile and a gaze so thick with unspoken promise as it washes over you and creates a fire of the desire you already felt … well, that expression on him turns him from sinfully hot to heart-stopping and irresistible instantly.

“It would take me five minutes to get you to beg me for it, Ms. Daniels. Admit it.”

Offended at the thought that I’m easy, I narrow my eyes. Finally. At least anger is an emotion I’ve had plenty of practice dealing with. “I’m not sure what kind of women you’re used to, but I promise you, I am not that type of woman.”

“Maybe three,” he oddly says, ignoring me.

“Three, what?” I snap.

“Minutes, sweetness. Three minutes and you’d be begging me for all this shit and my cock.”

My mouth flounders, and I gasp.

“Though, pretty sure I could get that in less than a minute and get you doin’ all the work while I watch from my back.”

My arm is up, palm cracking against his cheek before I have the ability to do anything to stop it. “I think we’re done here.”

I walk around him, ready to find my way out and let him find someone else to take all of this off his hands even if it kills a little part of my lux loving soul. When his hand curls around my bicep—not painfully, but firm enough to make me stop—I look over my shoulder with a frown. For a man who was just slapped, he looks almost gleeful.

“One minute, Ari. Give me a minute and if you aren’t ready to beg me for it, when those sixty seconds are up, you can take this shit and not give me a penny for it.”

Walk away, Ari. Walk. Away. No amount of money is worth being some man’s whore.

Spinning away from his hold, I jerk my arm free and step toward him with a roll up to my toes, getting my face as close to his as I can. His scent overwhelms me. The subtle notes of his cologne fog my rational thought, making me drunk with need, and I sway slightly before correcting myself.

“Thirty seconds,” I retort, my jaw tight with stubbornness.

I’m not sure who I shocked more—him or me. I have my answer, though, when I see victory flash in his eyes. Oh, my God … what have I done?

“You’re on,” he agrees, his eyes alight with the promise backed up by his devilish grin.

I nod, incapable of anything more. I stand there in shocked silence as he takes my phone, his thick fingers moving quickly over the screen. I vaguely hear a chime from his pocket and before I can so much as blink, he’s handing me my things.

“Tomorrow, I’ll text you. Paperwork first, then you beg.”

I gulp, jerk my head in what I hope resembles a nod of agreement, and then … I flee.

Review: The Lies I’ve Told by J.L Berg

The next on our big day of releases is the newest book by the phenomenal, J.L Berg.  This is definitely an emotional read.  It will definitely rip your heart out only for you to fall in love with the broken hero.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.

38771402Book Blurb:

Everything was going according to plan…

After years of working my way up the corporate ladder, it was finally my time to shine. I was about to receive the promotion of a lifetime.

But just like that, my life was destroyed with a single career crushing email.

Now, I am headed back home to North Carolina, under the ruse of an extended vacation to help run the family inn while my sister is on maternity leave. After all, what is family for? Plus, a few days at the beach could definitely help uncomplicate this crazy life of mine.

Enter Aiden Fisher.

Aiden is a guest at my sister’s inn. He’s wicked hot, a huge flirt and has one of the sexiest British accents I’ve ever heard. But beyond all that, I see a darkness in his soul, as if he’s carrying a great weight upon his shoulders.

I find myself pushing back my trip home to Florida in hopes that maybe I’ll look into those hazel brown eyes and finally see truth shining back instead of lies. That maybe he’ll stop running and tell me the truth for once.

But you know what they say about liars? It takes one to know one and I’ve been telling the biggest lie of all – I’ve fallen hopelessly in love with Aiden.

And isn’t that the scariest truth of all?

Review:

Aiden should be celebrating his success.  Instead the news he received makes him just want to get drunk and forget.  When he gets an email pleading for him to help out a town that he created a sculpture for previously.  He knows he needs to get away.  The email came just in time.  When he arrives he meets the very sexy Millie.  Millie is only helping her family with their Inn temporarily.  Though after her recent change she has no where else to be.  As they get to know each other, their feelings get tangled in the lies they hold onto.  Can Aiden and Millie find their way to each other?

I fell in love with this book.  It was so heart wrenching at times.  J.L Berg is so masterful in her story telling skills.  She grabs the reader and makes them feel for the characters.  You laugh with them and cry with them.  Aiden and Millie’s story encompasses all of that.  They are both at a crossroads in their life.  Finding themselves in Okracroke for different reasons feels like fate.  The journey these two characters take to take down the walls around their hearts is inspiring.  I loved that this story felt real.  The idea that no love really has a happily ever after.  That it is something that is worked for and through all obstacles.  I have truly loved all of the characters in this series.  I think though that Millie and Aiden had the most to lose and gain.  J.L Berg will definitely have you buying more Kleenex as you read this book.  With that being said….I can’t wait for the next book!

Title: EMBRACING HER HEART

Author: Melissa Foster

Genre: Contemporary Romance

About Embracing Her Heart:

Welcome to Oak Falls, Virginia, home to horse farms, midnight rodeos, bookstores, coffee shops, and quaint restaurants where you’re greeted like family and treated like treasured guests. Buckle up for a wild ride. Like any Southern girls worth their salt, the sweet-talking, sharp-tongued Montgomery sisters can take men to their knees with one seductive glance or a single sugarcoated sentence.

In EMBRACING HER HEART…
Leaving New York City and returning to her hometown to teach a screenplay writing class seems like just the break Grace Montgomery needs. Until her sisters wake her at four thirty in the morning to watch the hottest guys in town train wild horses and she realizes that escaping her sisters’ drama-filled lives was a lot easier from hundreds of miles away. To make matters worse, she spots the one man she never wanted to see again-ruggedly handsome Reed Cross.

Reed was one of Michigan’s leading historical preservation experts, but on the heels of catching his girlfriend in bed with his business partner, his uncle suffers a heart attack. Reed cuts all ties and returns home to Oak Falls to run his uncle’s business. A chance encounter with Grace, his first love, brings back memories he’s spent years trying to escape.

Grace is bound and determined not to fall under Reed’s spell again-and Reed wants more than another taste of the woman he’s never forgotten. When a midnight party brings them together, passion ignites and old wounds are opened. Grace sets down the ground rules for the next three weeks. No touching, no kissing, and if she has it her way, no breathing, because every breath he takes steals her ability to think. But Reed has other ideas…

Review:

It’s only a short trip for Grace.  She was only home for three weeks to refocus and teach a playwriting class.  What she doesn’t expect to find is the one man who has always captured her heart.  Reed didn’t expect to see Grace when he is interrupted working on Grace’s parent’s deck.  It is undeniable that the sparks they once had are still there.  When they finally admit to being together and decide to make the most of Grace’s time at home.  When the time finally comes will Reed and Grace finally make a go of it or will their love finally be severed?

This was a great love story.  For a fan of romance that is saying something.  Reading romance you expect a love story.  But, a great love story leaves an impression and gives you a hangover because you can still feel their love.  This is one of those books.  Reed and Grace are such complicated characters.  The misunderstandings of youth are finally hashed out in this great second chance love.  I felt like I was part of their second chance.  It wasn’t just their love story though, their friends and family were fantastic.  I can’t wait to see more of them in the books to come.  As for Reed and Grace’s love I will be feeling this story for days to come.  Melissa Foster does it again.  Her talent overflows the pages and won’t let the reader go until the last page is turned.

Review: The Scars I Bare by J.L Berg

The Scars I Bare by J.L. Berg
Publication Date: March 12th, 2018
Genre: Contemporary Romance

tSIB Amazon

Every scar tells a story…
Some are etched on the skin, for the whole world to see.
Others are buried deep, so deep, only the heart can truly find them.

Dean Sutherland was the quintessential guy next door. Strong and dependable, with a heart of gold, he knew exactly where his life was headed. Until one fateful night at sea ripped away everything. Now he’s adrift, a man without a purpose.

Cora Carpenter thought she had the perfect life. A successful career, an affectionate husband and a daughter who adores her. But soon that perfect world is crashing down around her, and she’s in need of a fresh start. Moving to a remote town on the coast of North Carolina seems like the perfect plan. That is until she finds herself face to face with a kindred soul from her past.

Dean and Cora have more in common than either are willing to admit. Both deeply rooted in their pain, they can’t help but find hope in each other’s eyes and passion entwined with every touch. But can two broken hearts make a whole?

Will the scars they’ve bared to one another poison their happily ever after, or can love truly heal all?

Review:

Dean is broken.  At least that’s all he sees everyday.  When Cora steps back into his life he can’t believe his luck.  But Cora is broken too.  When the two finally reunite, the missing pieces in their lives come back together.  Though they come together it takes a lot for two people beaten by life to accept the gift of each other.  When life comes back and hits the two of them again will they be able to come together or will this be the final straw?

I loved this story.  Dean and Cora are two incredibly powerful characters.  The way the two of them help each other recover from their wounds is inspiring.  Though some wounds aren’t seen but can be felt completely.  The pain is a tangible thing in this story but so is the hope.  Along with Cora and Dean is Cora’s daughter.  She is one of the best characters.  Her spunk and intelligence added a level of levity to a story that is rife with emotional strife.  I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book and believe me when I say is doesn’t disappoint.  J.L Berg knows how to drag a reader into her story.  I guarantee you will not want to put this book down.

Excerpt:

By the time I arrived at the inn for dinner, I was a goddamn mess. Sweat was running down my back from the heat, even after changing my shirt twice. I’d changed my mind three times on whether to bring flowers for Cora, doubling back to the house at the last minute to grab them after I firmly decided to leave them at home.

When I finally arrived, I was a solid twenty minutes late and probably looked like a psychopath from all the sweat and the mangled flowers in my hand.

But all of this was forgotten the moment the door opened, and Cora greeted me.

“Jesus,” I cursed, giving her a once-over before she even had the chance to say hi. “You look insane.”

“Insane is good?” she asked, pink staining her cheeks.

I’d never seen her in anything beyond scrubs and shorts. Granted, this woman could wear a paper bag and be the hottest woman in the room. Tonight though, she’d dressed up, wearing a short, strappy number with tiny pink flowers dotting the fabric.

“Insane is really good,” I clarified.

Don’t miss the bestselling first book in the series, FOR 100 DAYS – available now!

Review:

Just when Avery feels her life is coming together with Nick her past comes roaring back.  Her love affair with him so far has been dominated by her choices.  But, when her past threatens her future with Nick she must make decisions without him knowing.  Can Avery find a way to trust Nick while protecting him?  Or will betrayal shatter their love and forever change the two of them?

I loved this book.  It was swift and passionate.  Nick and Avery’s characters really have a lot of added depth in this follow up to 100 days.  Avery’s life has changed irrevocably.  With that her boundaries are tested.  Though she loves Nick she also fears what he doesn’t know about her.  The twists and cliffhangers in this book are abundant but that just makes you want to turn the pages even faster to find out what happens next.  This book can be read without reading For 100 Days, but I would recommend reading that first.  It will give you a basis on where the characters were before this book.  If you are a Lara Adrian fan, you will love this book.  I have previously read her Midnight Breeds series, but with this series I have truly saw the immense talent Lara Adrian has.  You will not regret picking up this sensual sequel.

Pleasure has a price . . .

Just when everything in my life is falling apart, I find a chance to turn it around–to step into someone else’s glittering world, if only for a little while. I become someone new, no longer the woman defined by an ugly past, but a woman freer and bolder than myself. A woman who isn’t afraid to explore every passion, even at its darkest, with a mysterious and seductive man who believes my mask is real.

Handsome and commanding, enigmatic and irresistible, billionaire Dominic Baine is an obsession I cannot afford and should not risk. He ushers me into consuming new pleasures and addicting new desires, until the line between my real life and the fantasy one I’ve stolen with him begins to blur.

I know I cannot keep my truth from him. I know my past will not stay buried forever. But before I can make it right, everything comes crashing down. I have deceived this powerful, dangerous man . . . and now there is a price to be paid.

Review:

Just when Avery’s life is falling apart an opportunity falls in her lap.  What she doesn’t expect is to literally run into one of the hottest men she’s ever met.  Dominic Baine is used to getting anything he wants whenever he wants.  All he wants is Avery and her trust for him to provide all the pleasure she wants.  What she doesn’t count on is the price that pleasure will cost her.  Can she handle all that he wants or will she hold back everything to protect her heart?

I have read Lara Adrian’s Midnight Breed series so I am familiar with her writing and storytelling ability.  What I didn’t know was that she is a fantastic contemporary erotic romance writer.  Avery and Nick are incredibly complex and interesting characters.  Their sexual attraction is felt through all the pages.  The reader will fall head over heels in this book.  The pages will burn up with the steamy scenes.  The splash of intrigue and deception within this book adds a wonderful depth to what could have been a strictly sex filled book.  Overall, I loved the story and its characters.  Everyone reading this will want to fall right into Nick’s bed and never leave.

Review: My Sweet Demise by Shana Vanterpool

Happy Friday!  Today will be my last scheduled review for a few weeks.  So, I have a fantastic book to begin my small hiatus.  My Sweet Demise is an angsty romance with lots of Alpha Male action.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.  Have a great weekend and keep an eye out I will be publishing some reviews sporadically of books that have been on my TBR list.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000026_00033]Book Blurb:

Desperation makes a girl do crazy things…

When twenty-one year old Raina O’Connor is kicked out of her room on short notice, she’s thrown into a frantic search for a new place to stay. As the situation becomes more urgent, her choices have dwindled to her least favorite option—ladies’ man, Kent Nicholson.

Kent Nicholson loves women, just not as a roommate…

When a gorgeous blonde with big hazel eyes answers Kent’s ad for a roommate, his red flags start flying. He’s looking for a wingman, not a chick who will put a damper on his game or drench his apartment in pink. It’s clear she’s in a bind, and something about her makes him break his own rules. But when he reluctantly accepts, it’s with four concrete conditions.

Be his wingman. Don’t get in his way with other girls. No bitchy attitudes. And most importantly, she can’t fall for him.

Pretty sure this was the world’s worst idea—ever…

Trust is something earned. Raina learned that the hard way when her father broke her heart as a child, making it easy to steer clear of relationships. But living with Kent somehow stirs emotions Raina has always forbidden herself to have. Plus, he’s everything she never wanted—untrustworthy, pigheaded…and gorgeous. Something tells her Kent isn’t free of his own secret scars…

Love can drag you down and spit you out, and be worth every second.!

Review:

Raina is desperate.  She is now homeless and must find a place to live.  When she finally comes across an affordable place the very handsome guy that answers the door she realizes this may not be as ideal as she thinks.  Kent agrees to let her move in with a few stipulations.  Raina agrees but when she finally has to fulfill her part of the bargain she realizes may be impossible.  As Raina and Kent fight their attraction and their pasts they must decide if they can let love in or will they let it fall out of their grasp?

I enjoyed this book.  It was full of angst and drama, but it also had a solid love story.  The story was well written with well developed and dynamic characters.  Kent, himself, is the most complex and perplexing character.  You will question why Raina really goes for him, but when his story unfolds you will be falling for him just like Raina.  Another fantastic part of this book are the ancillary characters like James, Becca and Sam.  Though you may not like some of them and they really are horrible at times they are so well written and help to propel the story.  My only complaint with this book was the ending.  It felt rushed and without the detail that throughout the book I became accustomed. Overall, this was quite an enjoyable book with very memorable characters.

Review: Finding the Cure by Cassandra Giovanni

Young beautiful woman portrait

Book Blurb:

Ellie Abela’s life has been anything but easy. Tragedy follows her where ever she goes, and she’s been a lot of places. At twenty she’s lived in over ten different states, all because of her dad’s career in medical research. His career is just another list of the causes of tragedies in El’s life. He’s dying, and with every breath he takes closer to Heaven, Ellie dies a little bit inside too.
At twelve she lost her mom in a drunk driving accident, and in a matter of months she fears she’ll lose the last person she has in the world to cancer.
While Ellie’s life has been rife with sadness, Trent Wentworth’s has been a challenge. A drug-addicted mom and a dead-beat dad meant at twenty three he was the adoptive father of his two year old sister. Now at twenty five he’s working his way up the corporate ladder and a struggling single parent.
Each is searching for a cure to the things in their lives dragging them down.
Not all cures are black and white; not all cures save us–and sometimes saving isn’t what we need. Sometimes we just need to realize how lucky we are to be alive, at least for this moment.

Review:

For so long it has seemed like a struggle just living for Ellie.  Between losing her mother at a young age and her father fighting the disease that will kill him, Ellie has lost herself in the world of sorry and grief.  That is until she meets Trent.  Trent’s life has been hard with a drug addict for a mother and a dead-beat dad.  His life becomes even more complicated when he adopts two-year old sister.  When Trent and Ellie meet they seem to click and find in each other what the other has been lacking.  But, when things get really tough will they be able to hold their lives together and realize that their love can be the cure to all their troubles.

I was absolutely floored by this beautiful story.  Ellie and Trent’s love and relationship is one that will have you striving for that kind of love.  The story is expertly written to bring the reader into Ellie’s world of grief and sorrow.  But, just as you are brought into the hardest parts of her life you will also share the happiest of them.  Your heart will break and heal in the matter of chapters.  This is a touching and heartbreaking love story that will show the reader the power of love in healing and accepting a future that you can’t control.  I adored this book and I can’t wait to get my hands on another Cassandra Giovanni book.  If you like books by Colleen Hoover then you will love this one by Cassandra Giovanni.

Review: Unwrapping Treasure by Jody A. Kessler

Another Monday brings in another fantastic book.  Today I am bringing to you a novella by Jody A. Kessler.  It’s a Christmas novella with two EMT’s who finally find their way into each other’s arms.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.  Have a great week ahead!

27413396Book Blurb:

Paramedics Treasure and Bodie arrive on scene at a routine emergency call and find an outrageous holiday party, a Christmas tree on fire, and an innocent life to save that nearly cost them their lives.

After escaping the chaos of work, they decide to spend their Christmas vacation together at a secluded lakeside cabin deep in the heart of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. With the snow falling soft, a warm fire in the hearth, and fresh cookies baking in the oven, an innocent holiday getaway quickly turns into a night of spontaneous passion with no strings attached.

Will Treasure and Bodie’s hasty decision to spend the night tumbling between the sheets – and on the table, and the floor – prove disastrous or will their relationship develop into something neither of them saw coming?

Review:

Treasure and Bodie have been partners for years.  Treasure has never seen him as anything other than a partner.  He has always been in a relationship and she is not one to mess with wives or girlfriends.  But, on Christmas Eve, Treasure finds out they are now both single and begins to see Bodie in a new light.  After a particularly difficult rescue, they find themselves on a mini trip away from everything.  What isn’t planned is the satisfaction they find in each others arms.  Will their friendship survive a night that will change everything?

I have been a fan of Jody A. Kessler since I read her book Death Lies between Us.  I wasn’t sure what to expect with a contemporary romance novella.  What I found was a fantastic story that left me begging for more.  Treasure and Bodie’s one night of romance is one that any woman would want.  We don’t really learn much about these characters except they have been friends and this is a leap for them on a holiday no one wants to be alone on.  This is where I truly wish there was more to this story.  I am hoping that this is just an appetizer for the real story between the two.  I think there is a lot that needs to be explored and with this story we see their friendship, courage and passion.  If you are looking for a novella that will have your kindle steaming up you will enjoy this story from Jody A. Kessler.  Though I am not beyond begging Jody for more Treasure and shirtless Bodie.
