Happy Release Day: The Play by Karina Halle

A troubled Scottish rugby player who doesn’t play by the rules.
A vivacious man-eater who’s given up on love.
When it comes to Lachlan and Kayla, opposites don’t just attract – they explode.

Kayla Moore has always been comfortable with her feisty, maneating reputation. At least it was fine until she hit her thirties and saw her best friends Stephanie and Nicola settle down with Linden and Bram McGregor, leaving Kayla to be the odd one out. Tired of being the third wheel with nothing but one-night stands and dead-end dates in San Francisco, Kayla decides to take a vow of celibacy and put men on the backburner.

That is until she lays her eyes on Linden and Bram’s cousin, hot Scot Lachlan McGregor. Lachlan is her sexual fantasy come to life – tall, tatted, and built like a Mack truck. With a steely gaze and successful rugby career back in Edinburgh, he’s the kind of man that makes her want to throw her vow right out the window. But Lachlan’s quiet and intense demeanor makes him a hard man to get to know, let alone get close to.

It isn’t until the two of them are thrown together one long, unforgettable night that Kayla realizes there is so much more to this brooding macho man than what meets the eye. But even with sparks flying between the two, Lachlan can’t stay in America forever. Now, Kayla has to decide whether to uproot her whole life and chance it all on someone she barely knows or risk getting burned once again.
Sometimes love is a game that just needs to be played.

When I first met him I resisted.
Like any forbidden love, I told myself he was a crush, and it would pass.
That was a lie. It never faded.

And I never expected he would fall for me just as hard.

There were so many reasons that should have kept us apart, least of all, the decade that separated us.
Growing up in New York City, I learned early on that love is a double-edged sword.
Love broke up my parents, love took away my friends, and love — the big, intense, never-been-like-this-beforelove — landed me in therapy.
Now I’m heading to college, and it’s time to give love a clean slate again. But, can I really start over when he’s still in my life?
Because the one man I’ve always wanted, is also the only guy I absolutely can’t have…
And he wants me just as fiercely.

Can I settle for anything less than the love of my life?

I guess this is it, huh? After fourteen years together, starting a life of our own on this island, five deployments and countless letters I’ve written you through it all, I finally go out to the mailbox and see something I’ve always dreamed of: an envelope with your handwriting on it. For one moment, I actually thought you’d changed your mind, that all the awful things you said to me were just your way of coping after everything you’d been through. I was still here, Fisher. I was still here, holding my breath, waiting for you to come back even though you told me you never would. You always said you’d find your way back to me. Out of all the lies you’ve told me, this one hurts the most.

Enclosed you will find the signed divorce papers, as requested.
I hope you find what you’re looking for. I’m sorry it wasn’t me.

To get the ending they want, Lucy and Fisher will have to go back to the beginning. Through the good and the bad, they’ll be reminded of why they always made their way back to each other, and why this time, one way or another, it will be the last time.

Super Sunday Review 1: The Trouble with Dying by Maggie Le Page

Happy Sunday!  I apologize that this week has been a bit hectic and my reviews weren’t ready.  But, today you are lucky.  I have two great posts that will be up for you.  First is a unique book about what happens when your life is in limbo and if you choose right you can have a chance to fix past wrongs.  That is the unique story Maggie Le Page presents in her book, The Trouble with Dying.  For my full review keep reading after the book blurb.  Oh and don’t forget to look for Super Sunday part 2.

23844432Book Blurb:

When Faith Carson wakes up on a hospital ceiling looking down on her body in a coma, it’s a bad start to the week. A very bad start. She has no idea who she is or how she got there or why, and the biggest mystery of all is why she married the schmuck who wants her ventilator switched off.

As if that’s not enough Faith has a dead gran haunting her, a young daughter missing her, and one devilishly delicious man making her wish she could have a second chance at life. And maybe she can, if she finds a way back into her body and wakes up by Friday. But if she doesn’t, this will be her last bad week—ever.

Nate Sutherland decided long ago he’d settle for friendship if he couldn’t have Faith’s heart. But now, as she nears death, he’s going to have to listen to his feelings in a whole new way—and act. Because if he doesn’t, this week will be the worst damn week of his life. He’ll lose everything he’s ever loved.

Faith Carson wakes up looking down at her self.  Only she doesn’t know she is Faith and she doesn’t remember any of her past except that he dead grandmother is there with her too and she is dressed in a very unusual outfit.  Soon she realizes that it is up to her to decide whether she wants another chance at this life.  She must also prove she wants it.  As the important people in Faith’s life visit her she soon realizes mistakes she’s made and that she needs to live to make things right.  But, can Faith prove to those above that she truly wants another chance at this life or will her week fly by without her proving just how much she wants to continue living.

This was such an engrossing and unique story.  I think the idea of proving you want to continue living while in limbo is such a great idea.  Everyone questions what happens when you die, but few question what happens when your on the cusp of dying.  Not only was such a heavy topic treated with a great mix of respect and brevity but it also mixed in a suspense filled mystery of who caused Faith to be in the state that she is in.  You really get the great mix of emotions in this book.  Everything from sadness to guilty to hot to happy.  It really runs the gamut while making you want to turn every last page until you find out what happens.  I would highly recommend this book for those looking for a refreshing read.

Fresh Face Friday: Playing For Keeps by Kelsie Belle

Hi Everyone!  It’s Friday at last and you know what that means…another addition of Fresh Face Friday.  This week I have a great erotic romance that will be sure to steam up your tablets or burn your fingers turning the page.  Kelsie Belle’s Playing for Keeps is a hot little romance that is also emotionally poignant at times.  This story will definitely have you turning through the pages wondering what will happen next.  For my full review be sure to keep reading after the book blurb.  I hope you all have a great weekend!

Left broken and bleeding, night club owner and accountant
Cassidy Samson did her best to pick up the pieces of her broken self and move on with her life. She vowed never to let anyone get close to her heart again…until the potent force of a pair of green eyes threatens to bring her to her knees.

Hired as the new guitarist in the band at the Escape Lounge,
Cameron Chase is intrigued and aroused by Cassidy’s tough-as-nails attitude and sets out to barrel through the formidable wall she has constructed around her heart, to get to the real woman behind the façade. He agrees to play by her rules in a reckless game of lust in hopes of finding love.
But will Cam be able to chase away the demons of Cassidy’s past that threaten to consume her? Will his love be strong enough to make her whole again?

Cassidy is a successful bar owner and is pleased with her life.  She has overcome the past and is running her life the way she wants it without anyone else.  That is until her house band hires a new guitarist, Cameron Chase.  When Cassidy and Cam meet for the first time the vibe is electric and this scares Cassidy.  She is not interested in any kind of relationship or getting closer to any man other than an anonymous roll in the hay.  Unfortunately, the very persistent Cam has other ideas and he won’t let up until Cassidy will let him in.  How long will Cassidy let the past dictate her future and if she can move passed it will Cam still be there to love her?

This was a great little novel.  It had lots of steamy sex scenes that spice up a story that can have very emotional turns.  I really loved Cam.  I think he is definitely a guy that any girl would want chasing her.  Cassidy eventually grew on me but it took time.  It was a bit tiresome the way she continually snapped at people and how her emotions were not controllable.  At times I felt like she was almost too off-putting.  I understand why her character was the way she was but it felt a bit extreme to me.  The story was good and I liked the little bit of intrigue that was thrown in there.  Though it was predictable who the bad guy was.  Overall, I think it was an enjoyable read and would recommend it to anyone look for a some spice and a good story.

Review: Dancing in Circles (Circles Trilogy #1) by Victoria Adams

Today I am spotlighting Dancing in Circles by Victoria Adams.  This was a new take on a Romeo and Juliet story.  This was a refreshing and addictive read.  You definitely will get wrapped up in the lives of Julie and Robert.  Be sure to check out my full review after the book blurb.

16096444Book Blurb:

Julie Anderson was born into privilege and a charmed life. She is surrounded by love, friends and family. She secretly dreams of becoming a professional ballet dancer.

Robert Holiday was other born into a life of violence on the streets of North Shore. Initiated into the Shorsemen gang at a young age, he rises to the level of leader.

Can a young, idealistic co-ed, crack a jaded gang member’s icy shell and allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul?

Julie and her friends see the hot new student, Robert.  It isn’t long until they discover he is just a student he is a student from the bad side of town.  Julie is intrigued and attracted to this bad boy.   Robert finds he is drawn to Julie too.  When Julie tries to befriend Robert he is skeptical of her motives, but Julie will not give up.  The two become close and Julie learns all the Roberts dirty secrets and what he is ashamed of.  As these two friends learn more and grow closer feelings turn to love.  Can the love flourish between this Romeo and Juliet or will their different worlds crush it?

I really got sucked into this story.  The drama mixed with the love story was wonderfully woven.  I felt that for a Romeo and Juliet like story this was unique yet realistic.  The conflict between the two social classes was done well.  I also loved the depth of the characters.  None of the characters, even the supporting ones, were flat.  They all had multiple facets to their life.  This was one of the best parts of this book.  The only complaint I had was the way it was written.  I know there is a bit of a warning at the beginning of the book regarding the storytelling method.  It was a bit tough at the beginning and a few times throughout the story I wasn’t sure who was speaking and got a little lost, but once you over come those little bumps you find yourself drawn into the story and can’t help but want to read the whole trilogy in one sitting.  Overall, I felt this was a good novel that definitely surprised me.  When you read the first book you will definitely want to go on to the rest of the trilogy.  I know I am anxious to read the next two books.
