Young beautiful woman portrait

Book Blurb:

Ellie Abela’s life has been anything but easy. Tragedy follows her where ever she goes, and she’s been a lot of places. At twenty she’s lived in over ten different states, all because of her dad’s career in medical research. His career is just another list of the causes of tragedies in El’s life. He’s dying, and with every breath he takes closer to Heaven, Ellie dies a little bit inside too.
At twelve she lost her mom in a drunk driving accident, and in a matter of months she fears she’ll lose the last person she has in the world to cancer.
While Ellie’s life has been rife with sadness, Trent Wentworth’s has been a challenge. A drug-addicted mom and a dead-beat dad meant at twenty three he was the adoptive father of his two year old sister. Now at twenty five he’s working his way up the corporate ladder and a struggling single parent.
Each is searching for a cure to the things in their lives dragging them down.
Not all cures are black and white; not all cures save us–and sometimes saving isn’t what we need. Sometimes we just need to realize how lucky we are to be alive, at least for this moment.

Review:

For so long it has seemed like a struggle just living for Ellie.  Between losing her mother at a young age and her father fighting the disease that will kill him, Ellie has lost herself in the world of sorry and grief.  That is until she meets Trent.  Trent’s life has been hard with a drug addict for a mother and a dead-beat dad.  His life becomes even more complicated when he adopts two-year old sister.  When Trent and Ellie meet they seem to click and find in each other what the other has been lacking.  But, when things get really tough will they be able to hold their lives together and realize that their love can be the cure to all their troubles.

I was absolutely floored by this beautiful story.  Ellie and Trent’s love and relationship is one that will have you striving for that kind of love.  The story is expertly written to bring the reader into Ellie’s world of grief and sorrow.  But, just as you are brought into the hardest parts of her life you will also share the happiest of them.  Your heart will break and heal in the matter of chapters.  This is a touching and heartbreaking love story that will show the reader the power of love in healing and accepting a future that you can’t control.  I adored this book and I can’t wait to get my hands on another Cassandra Giovanni book.  If you like books by Colleen Hoover then you will love this one by Cassandra Giovanni.

Claire and Liz have always had a friendship that defied the test of time, but when one of them is diagnosed with a disease that every woman fears, their bond is put through the wringer. How do you cope knowing your soul mate could be taken from you?

Filled with memories of their life long friendship, inappropriate behavior, bad tattoos and shaving cats, the two friends will realize that laughter really is the best medicine.

Tattoos and TaTas is not your typical love story; it’s a story of friendship and learning how to let go when something is beyond your control.

Review:

Claire and Liz have been friends since high school.  They have been through thick and thin.  All the challenges of marriage, children, their business and everything in between.  But, nothing prepares them for the big C.  This will test them more than anything.  As they work through the trials of the present, the past will be remembered.  As with all of their trials they will be met with tears, laughter and lots of inappropriate comments.

This story really hit home for me.  I have experience with the big C and know how tough all of this is.  I think this really attacks a sensitive subject with respect and humor.  It addresses how people handle things differently especially when they cant control the outcome.  I did cry at times but most of all I laughed out loud.  I loved how in the end everyone came together and were just there.  It truly shows the strength of friendship and the love between friends.  In the heart of all of these books are the friendships and how important they are.

Review: What’s Left of Me by Amanda Maxlyn

Happy Hump Day!  Today I am reviewing a book that will tear you to pieces.  It is heart wrenching in its love and sadness.  The rawness of this story fills all of the pages and will leave you feeling exhausted from the emotional roller coaster.  For my full review of Amanda Maxlyn’s What’s Left of Me keep reading after the book blurb.   I hope all of you are having a great week.

Life works in mysterious ways.

Four years ago I became known as the girl with cancer.

I refuse to cry.

And I refuse to give in.

A relationship with a man is the last thing I’m looking for right now, but one night with Parker changes everything. He is persistent, and he knows what he wants. Me.

He doesn’t treat me like I’m fragile.

But he doesn’t know, and I’m not ready to tell him.

What if it changes everything?

Tragedy found me when I was seventeen.

Love found me when I was twenty-one.

My name is Aundrea McCall, and this is my journey.

Review:

Cancer has been the story of Aundrea’s life for the past four years.  Between treatments, hospitalizations and doctors her life hasn’t been her own.  As soon as anyone meets her and finds out she has cancer their opinion changes.  That is until she decides to go out with her friend one night.  While out she meets a handsome guy and has a one night stand.  Or that’s what she thought would happen.  Unfortunately, the guy who is her one night stand has recently started working with her brother-in-law and she will be seeing lots of him.  Parker, doesn’t want things to end with Aundrea after one night.  He is bound and determined to change her mind on their relationship.  He knows they share more and wants more.  Aundrea is holding back and is scared.  She just wants Parker to keep seeing her as just a girl and not the girl with cancer.  But, if she can’t get passed this then they will never have a future.  Will Aundrea let love in or will she push away the one great thing in her life out of fear.

This was a fantastically emotional story.  The characters are wonderful and story is well written.  Aundrea and Parker’s love story is one for the ages.  Though it comes with tears and fears the love is felt throughout this book.  I think when any woman reads this book they will want a Parker.  Not to mention the few love scenes they have are quite spicy.  The addition of the love scenes are very much-needed to lighten the mood and give a sense of hope and reality.  The cancer portion of the story is very well researched and portrayed honestly.  This book feels very reminiscent of a Nicholas Sparks or Colleen Hoover book.  You are definitely going to feel like wrung out after reading this book.  It will stay with you way after the last page.  I look forward to Amanda Maxlyn’s next book, What’s Left of Us.
