My Take on The Unsacred Gift

When I wrote The Unsacred Gift I had to do a little research. My research was mainly on the different types of visions one can have. Google has been there for me when I needed to find research for my writing. There is a part in the novel where Sissy went on her mother’s computer while on her visit home to do some research about her visions. Google was the main search engine she used.

I must say that I have never connected with someone in my life the way I connected with the main character Sissy. Every pain, dream, sorrow, and happiness she felt, I felt. It was almost like I was going through the same things she was going through. My friend told me to add some type of happiness in the book, so I added the Chris character to it. But I didn’t want him to stay long, so I was torn between killing him off, or just letting Sissy run him off. You will have to read the book to see which one I picked :).

While I was writing certain scenes in the books, I had tears in my eyes. It was one part of the book where Sissy talked about how love would never fine her because she was hiding from it, made me cry. It was that passage that I knew that this book would be something special. I though, how many times do people think or feel the same way Sissy does about love? Tons of people. That is why I think so many people can relate to her. Even I can.

Little things that Sissy did in the book I saw myself in her. Her quick come backs and sarcastic comments remind me so much of myself. The relationship she has with her mother reminds me of me and my mom at times. But when I wrote about her I didn’t think about me, I thought about this girl with a gift who was afraid of its power.

Review: The Unsacred Gift by C.S Dorsey

Today’s review is of The Unsacred Gift by C.S Dorsey. It is a Young Adult Paranormal book.  C.S Dorsey is  giving away 2 Kindle ebooks during her blog tour.  See below how to enter.

In The Unsacred Gift, we meet Sissy.  Sissy was born with the gift of being able to see the way people will die.  She is very accurate.  This first happened when she was six years old and her sister Misty went missing.  Her entire life she isolates herself to avoid contact with people so that she will not see the horrific ways people die.  Her life was moving along in this very isolated way until she goes home for the weekend for her grandmother’s birthday party.  It is during this weekend that she begins to have horrible dreams so real they are leaving remnants behind.  Sissy begins to feel as if she is going crazy.  But, when all is said and done it becomes a weekend of love, enlightenment and sadness.  Sissy discovers things that will allow her to change her world and accept herself for who she is.

In general this was a good book.  It seemed pretty short, but it was a nice complete read.  I wasn’t expecting the ending at all.  I knew it was gonna be something big, but was kind of disappointed when the twist erased everything that had been going on.  The book felt like it could have bordered on an Adult book if the author wanted to take it in that direction.  I was a bit distracted by a bunch of spelling and grammatical errors.  I think the editor should have looked more closely.  But, aside from the spelling and grammar, the story really stood up on its own.  I was even thinking about it days later.  I was thinking how frustrating and mad I was about the ending, but a good book will do that to you.  It sticks with you.  If I had one wish for this book (besides a different ending)  I would have liked it to end a bit more thoroughly.  The story kinda just dropped off after the twist.  All in all it was a good Young Adult read and I will probably read it again…just to get mad all over again.  🙂
