Review: Magic Bleeds (Kate Daniels Series #4) by Ilona Andrews

This is the fourth book in the Kate Daniels series.  I am really enjoying this series.  Its fresh and witty.  I have yet to read the fifth installment, Magic Slays, but can’t wait.

Magic Bleeds begins where the previous book, Magic Strikes, leaves off.  Curran, the Beast Lord of Atlanta, is expected at Kate’s house for a dinner that he won in a bet.  Kate has everything ready, but no Curran.  After waiting for 3 and a half hours Kate leaves.  Weeks later, Kate is called to a bar where a shapeshifter has been killed and needs to investigate.  Not only was this Were killed, but there was disease all in and around the body.  This is the first of many bodies. Soon the People and the Mercenary Guild are attacked.  This leaves more questions than answers.  She begins to realize that the person doing these killings may be closer to her than she feels comfortable.  So, in between trying to solve the mystery of the people getting killed, the establishments getting attacked and the possible spread of disease, Kate must also cope with Curran’s blatant dismissal and her heartbreak.

This continuation of the Kate Daniels series is excellent.  It propels many different story lines forward and doesn’t leave you hanging.  I would suggest, however, that you read the previous books in the series so that you understand what is going on with the characters and what has brought them to this point.  Ilona Andrews’ does a fine job in expounding upon her characters and allowing for natural growth that some authors would have pushed.  I highly recommend you going out and getting the first book, Magic Bites.  You won’t regret meeting Kate or Curran.
