Review: Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy by E.L James

Ok…yes I am one of those mom’s who have read the Fifty shades trilogy.  I really liked this trilogy, but I don’t think it was necessary for it to be a trilogy.

The basics of these books are surrounding Ana and Christian.  Ana a currently/newly graduate (depending on the book your on) from college and Christian a young self-made multi-millionare.  The basis circles around Ana and Christian’s abnormal sex life and Christian’s very f-ed  up past. That is the very slimed down basic plot that flows through all three books.

Now, to be blunt. The writing is not the best I have encountered.  In fact its pretty elementary, but the descriptions of the sex scenes are incredibly detailed.  That is one of  the hooks with these books.  The sex is inventive and not the norm for romance novels.  Sex isn’t the only thing that draws you though.  The relationship between Ana and Christian really makes any woman envy what they develop.  And the emails are some of the best parts of the books. His jealousy and over protectiveness can drive you crazy, but she can also be very intentionally difficult when she doesn’t need to be.  Those two aspects are what perpetuate the story and keep you coming back for more Ana and Christian.

All that being said…I don’t understand why these books are so controversial.  Yes…the sex isn’t stuff people normally talk about.  And sometimes pictures with those scenes would have been helpful, but it is by no means porn or a horrible harlequin romance.  I would recommend this as a good “junk read”.  Something your not gonna get much out of but will probably give you excellent ideas for the bedroom.  I know I want to go out and buy a silk tie today.
